As Chief Medical Officer and co-founder of VillageMD and an esteemed practicing physician, Clive Fields, M.D., is transforming the way today’s patients and physicians experience health care. Dr. Fields helped create VillageMD in 2013 to enable progressive physician groups, independent practices and health care organizations to move toward a primary care-led, high-value clinical model with improved quality, exceptional patient experiences and lower costs. Under Dr. Fields’ co-leadership, VillageMD has grown from an initial practice of 13 physicians to a partnership with more than 2,500 physicians across seven states who are responsible for approximately 500,000 lives.

Dr. Fields has demonstrated a passion to deliver value-based care throughout his medical career. His dedication and contributions culminated in his receiving the 2018 Robert Graham AAFP Physician Executive of the Year by the American Academy of Family Practice’s (AAFP). He has also been consistently named one of Houston’s “Top Doctors” by H Magazine and Texas Monthly. In the early 1990s, prior to beginning VillageMD, Dr. Fields initiated and served as president of Village Family Practice, which became one of the largest primary care groups in Houston and was recognized for its quality of care by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA).

Despite his leadership roles and commitments, Dr. Fields makes patient care his ultimate priority. He sees patients weekly and serves on staff at Memorial Hermann Memorial City Hospital, The Methodist Hospital and CHI St. Luke’s Health-Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center. Dr. Fields also functions as an Associate Professor of Family Medicine at both Baylor College of Medicine and the University of Texas at Houston. An active member of the AAFP, he is a regular contributor on health care topics for leading publications including Forbes, Health Data Management and the Houston Chronicle. Dr. Fields received his medical degree from The Chicago Medical School and his bachelor’s degree from The University of Texas at Austin.

In this episode Ron chats with Dr. Anand Mehta, Medical Director for the Flagship location for Walmart Health in Dallas, GA. Here they do a deep dive into the new Walmart Health and Wellness model. They offer Primary Care, Dental, Behavioral Health, Optical, Hearing, Labs, Imaging, and Pharmacy all in one location. Anand talks about the significance of having all of those services in one convenient location at a low cost. This model could be a good way to encourage patients with chronic conditions who do not seek healthcare services frequently enough to utilize them more often.

Dr. Anand Mehta is dedicated family physician who is board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine. He was born and raised in Buffalo, NY where he attended SUNY Buffalo. He later graduated Medical School from Kasturba Medical College, India. His residency was completed at Hunterdon Medical Center in Flemington, NJ. Dr. Mehta then worked for the hospital group before moving to Georgia in 2014.

Since the move to GA, Dr. Mehta worked as a solo family physician for WellStar Health System for five years in Roswell, GA. His most recent position was as a Medical Director of Walmart Health in Dallas, GA. In this episode Ron chats with Dr. Amy Altman. Amy is the COO of Reliant Immune Diagnostics. Here, they dive into world of COVID-19 testing. In this episode Nora Belcher, the Executive Director of the Texas e-Health Alliance, joins the show again. Here she does a deep dive into telehealth policy. Telehealth has changed significantly since her last time on the show. The COVID-19 pandemic has caused telehealth policy to change at a very rapid rate. It has also cause telehealth usage to skyrocket across Texas and the Nation. She also talks about the future of telehealth policy. She also looks at the future of telehealth as a whole and how it could be utilized in more of a whole health model or remote patient monitoring for patients with chronic care.

Nora is the Executive Director of the Texas e-Health Alliance, a non-profit advocacy group that she started in 2009 to give health information technology stakeholders a voice in public policy.  The Texas e-Health Alliance serves as the state’s leading advocate, from local communities to the national level, for the use of information technology to improve the health care system for patients. She is widely considered to be one of the state’s leading experts in telemedicine, having worked on the issue for over 20 years in a variety of roles.  During the most recent Texas legislative session, Ms. Belcher led the coalition that passed SB 1107, which was a significant step in opening up the Texas market for full use of telemedicine. Ms. Belcher holds a bachelor’s degree in government from the University of Texas at Austin and owns a hardcover first edition of Game of Thrones.
